Club for Growth launches ads in 9th
The Club for Growth on Friday launched a $100,000 ad buy in Missouri’s open 9th district House race that attacked GOP candidate Blaine Luetkemeyer for being “liberal on taxes.”
The fiscally conservative Club on Thursday endorsed Luetkemeyer’s opponent, state Rep. Bob Onder.
{mosads}The two, along with several other candidates, are battling for the Republican nomination in gubernatorial candidate Rep. Kenny Hulshof’s (R) district.
Luetkemeyer also has a record as a state House member, and the ad criticizes him for pushing “to make it easier to raise property taxes” and opposing a cut in the gas tax.
The Club, which plays heavily in GOP primaries and is known for harsh attacks on its Republican opponents, also recently launched ads in Alaska opposing Rep. Don Young (R).
“This ad is a politically motivated distortion of Blaine Luetkemeyer’s record by Bob Onder, who hoodwinked the Club for Growth about Blaine’s credentials as the only true fiscal conservative in this race,” Luetkemeyer spokesman Paul Sloca said. “For example, on taxes, Blaine supported giving local communities the right to vote to either pass or vote down a tax increase rather than have the legislature impose them — that is not a tax increase as Onder claims.”
The buy is both broadcast and cable and will run for at least 10 days.
The primary is Aug. 5.
