Sununu closing, Bradley up in UNH poll

Things might not be so bad for Republicans in New Hampshire after all, according to the University of New Hampshire Survey Center’s newest Granite State Poll.

Sen. John Sununu (R), who has long trailed former Gov. Jeanne Shaheen (D) by double digits, is within the margin of error in the latest installment, released Wednesday.

{mosads}Shaheen leads Sununu just 46 percent to 42 after holding a 12-point lead in April and a 17-point lead in February.

Sununu’s favorability rating has also recovered. He is viewed favorably by 52 percent and unfavorably by 33 percent — numbers very similar to Shaheen’s 53 and 31.

In the 1st congressional district, former Rep. Jeb Bradley (R) continues to poll ahead of freshman Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (D). In the rematch of their 2006 race, Bradley leads 46-40 — the same margin by which he led the April poll.

Bradley’s primary opponent, former state Health and Human Services Commissioner John Stephen, trails Shea-Porter 42-36.

Both six-point margins are within the margin of error, because of the small sample size.

In the 2nd district, freshman Rep. Paul Hodes (D) continues to look solid for reelection, leading both radio host Jennifer Horn (R) and state Sen. Bob Clegg (R) by around 20 points.

Hodes led Horn 43-23 and Clegg 44-25.
