Armstrong poll shows him tight with Coffman
In the Republican primary to succeed retiring Rep. Tom Tancredo (R), Wil Armstrong says he has pulled nearly even with the early favorite, Colorado Secretary of State Mike Coffman.
Armstrong released a poll by BWD Global this week showing him with 32.5 percent support, and Coffman slightly ahead with 33.8 percent. Campaign officials said they’ve gained momentum by starting television advertising and winning the endorsement of prominent Republicans, including former Colorado Gov. Bill Owens, Sen. Wayne Allard (Colo.) and former presidential candidate Mitt Romney.
{mosads}“It’s now a dead heat where the winner might be declared with a two- or three-digit margin. We are going to turn up our grassroots activity,” said Armstrong campaign manager Jack Stansbery.
Armstrong’s poll showed Republican state Sen. Ted Harvey with 11 percent and GOP state Sen. Steve Ward with 8.4 percent. The district is heavily Republican.

Coffman spokesman Dustin Zvonek said the campaign wasn’t fazed by Coffman’s poll.
“You’re 13 days out, so they’ve got to do it to try to show a little momentum,” Zvonek said.
Coffman had released a poll in June showing Coffman with 47 percent and Armstrong at 19 percent.
