Porter files nominating papers

The 2006 Democratic nominee against Rep. Phil English (R-Pa.), Dr. Steven Porter, on Monday filed for the 2008 race as an Independent, potentially undercutting Democrat Kathy Dahlkemper’s bid to unseat English this fall.

{mosads}Porter announced he had collected 3,200 petition signatures — 1,000 more than were required — to ensure his name is on the ballot this fall.

English won reelection with 54 percent of the vote in 2006. Porter took 42 percent, while a third-party challenger received 4 percent.

Porter has said he is not going to actively raise money for his latest campaign.
