Kaine: Not too much of the Clintons at the convention
Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine (D) said Sunday that he does not think there is a “danger of there being too much of the Clinton family at the convention.”
Kaine, believed to be in the running for the vice presidential slot on the Democratic ticket, added that he strongly believes that the party will unite behind Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.), its presumptive nominee.
{mosads}“I know that both [Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) and former President Bill Clinton] will have key roles in the convention,” Kaine said on CBS’s “Face the Nation”. “And I expect that, once we’re there, that everybody is going to be together in a great way to do a historic job of turning out Democratic voters and also independent and disgruntled Republican voters for Barack Obama in November.”
Kaine predicted a “historic turnout” of Democrats in the general election and pointed to enthusiastic support for Obama in his state as an example of how Clinton and Obama supporters have come together.
The governor added that it would be important at the convention to acknowledge “Bill Clinton as a great former president” and Sen. Clinton’s “public service record and her historic candidacy.”
