McCain releases another video featuring ‘The One’
Republican presidential candidate John McCain’s campaign has released another video mocking rival Barack Obama as “The One,” proclaiming that the Illinois senator is “ready to lead us on the road to Denver.”
The ad features Obama and clips from “The Ten Commandments” and takes aim at the Democrats’ upcoming convention in Denver.
{mosads}“The faithful are ready to gather one mile high,” the ad says.
The spot also features a recent comment by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), who said that Obama is “a leader that God has blessed us with at this time.”
The Obama campaign dismissed the first ad, which also featured the Democrat and scenes from the movie, as petty and unworthy of a presidential debate, but McCain said only that the candidates should maintain their senses of humor.
The actual road to Denver for Obama will pass through four swing states, the campaign said Thursday. After a kick-off in Springfield, Ill., where Obama announced his candidacy last year, he and his yet-to-be-announced running mate will travel to Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri and Montana.
In Denver, Obama is set to accept his party’s nomination next Thursday in front of 75,000 people.
By contrast, officials at the Republican convention, set for Minneapolis-St. Paul one week later, released details of what the podium will look like when McCain accepts the nomination, stressing that the setting will be “intimate.”
“The stage was designed to facilitate the candid and personal tone that Americans have come to expect from Sen. McCain,” Maria Cino, president and CEO of the convention, said. “The intimate setting will be a fitting backdrop for Sen. McCain’s acceptance speech.”
