Stender up one in internal poll

A poll in New Jersey’s 7th district shows Democratic state Assemblywoman Linda Stender slightly ahead of Republican state Sen. Leonard Lance in her bid to win the seat of retiring Rep. Mike Ferguson (R).

The poll, conducted Aug. 20-25 by Anzalone/Liszt Research for the Stender campaign, shows Stender leading with 36 percent, while Lance pulls in 33 percent. Third-party candidates Michael Hsing — who lost to Lance in the GOP primary — and anti-war businessman Tom Abrams received 9 percent and 2 percent, respectively.

“It shows that this is a very competitive race,” said Stender spokeswoman Irene Lin. “We’re optimistic about the fact that we’re still leading.”

Lance campaign manager Amanda Woloshen maintained her campaign’s June polling data, which indicated a sizable Republican advantage in the district, was more reliable.

“Even after spending hundreds of thousands of dollars, Linda Stender’s questionable numbers show the race neck and neck,” Woloshen said.
