Independent poll has Lance leading

A new independent poll in the 7th congressional district shows Republican state Sen. Leonard Lance in decent shape to hold onto the House seat of retiring Rep. Mike Ferguson (R).

{mosads}The poll, released Sunday by Monmouth University, shows Lance with a slight 43-39 lead over Democratic state Assemblywoman Linda Stender.

An August poll, meanwhile, conducted by Anzalone/Liszt Research for the Stender campaign showed Stender leading 36-33.

“It is reassuring to see voters are clearly rejecting Linda Stender’s tax-and-spend record and her million dollars of false, negative advertisements,” Lance said.

Stender spokeswoman Irene Lin said Stender’s polling shows her leading because voters are realizing that “Leonard Lance simply represents more of the same failed policies of the Bush administration.”
