Romney to assist Jenkins

Former GOP presidential contender Mitt Romney will raise funds later this month for Kansas Treasurer Lynn Jenkins, who is running against Rep. Nancy Boyda (D).

The event headlined by the former Massachusetts governor will take place at a private home in Topeka on Oct. 22. Jenkins, who is trying to defeat the freshman Democrat, also hosted First Lady Laura Bush for a fundraiser last month.

Boyda unseated five-term Republican Rep. Jim Ryun (R) in 2006. Jenkins is a two-term state treasurer who defeated Ryun as he attempted a comeback in the Republican primary in August.

Jenkins had been trailing Boyda in fundraising this summer by about $500,000. Jenkins released her quarterly fundraising report early for the most recent quarter. According to it, she raised $640,000 in the last two and a half months. Boyda has not released her numbers, which are due Wednesday.
