Michelle Obama stumps for Al Franken

In her second campaign stop of the day, first lady Michelle Obama roused a crowd at a Minneapolis high school and urged them to help push Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) and Gov. Mark Dayton over the finish line in their reelection races.

She praised them both as part-and-parcel of the changes that have come with Obama’s term, from healthcare reform to a slowly rebounding economy.

{mosads}“By almost every measure, we are better off today than when Barack Obama took office,” she said.

She also plugged a Franken-authored provision that requires health insurers to spend 80 percent of premiums on healthcare and Dayton’s record as a progressive.

Both Dayton and Franken won their last elections by thin margins — something that was mentioned repeatedly from the podium — though both have healthy leads over their opponents.

With the midterm elections approaching, the first lady has been traveling around the country stumping in top Democratic races. Earlier on Tuesday, she was in Iowa headlining a rally for Rep. Bruce Braley’s (D-Iowa) campaign for the state’s open Senate seat.
