Clinton’s Iowa announcement fuels speculation of Vilsack endorsement

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) plans on making a “major announcement” in Iowa on Monday, fueling speculation about her securing an endorsement from former Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack (D), who earlier this year halted his own presidential bid.

Clinton’s campaign office confirmed that the senator will hold a press conference with “special guests” in Iowa Monday morning, and the Associated Press is reporting that Vilsack will endorse the senator at the event.

The two-term governor of Iowa dropped out of the race last month, citing lack of funds as a major reason. Iowa has the country’s first presidential primary next year and an endorsement would be sure to help Clinton during the state's caucus on Jan. 14, 2008.
