Clinton gets boost from Vilsack
Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) received a major boost Monday, when former Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack (D) announced he would endorse the former first lady and join her presidential campaign as co-chairman.
“There is no candidate for president who will do a better job of creating a stronger and better America for your children than Hillary Clinton,” Vilsack said at Clinton’s side in Des Moines.
With Iowa’s role as a traditional bellwether in presidential campaigns, Vilsack’s endorsement could go a long way toward winning the state for Clinton. The popular two-term governor had launched his own presidential bid, hoping for a strong showing in Iowa, but abandoned the campaign last month, citing a lack of funds. Vilsack’s wife Christie will co-chair Clinton’s Iowa campaign.
“I am absolutely thrilled and honored to have the endorsements of two people whom I admire so much,” Clinton said.
