Krauthammer: Trump’s Clinton remarks like ‘a pardon’
Conservative commentator Charles Krauthammer says President-elect Donald Trump’s suggestion that he would not prosecute Hillary Clinton over her use of a email server is akin to issuing a pardon.
{mosads}“I think it’s the right thing. Procedurally, not quite, but this the equivalent of him saying, issuing, a pardon,” Krauthammer told Fox News’s “Special Report” on Tuesday.
The president-elect told The New York Times during a meeting Tuesday that he did not want to “hurt the Clintons,” suggesting he would not push prosecution.
“I don’t want to hurt the Clintons, I really don’t. She went through a lot and suffered greatly in many different ways,” Trump told the newspaper.
“We do not want to see national political opponents putting each other in jail,” Krauthammer added. “So even though procedurally he’s not supposed to say this because he’s not the one who would decide whether there would be a special prosecutor, it’s the equivalent of saying, ‘When I’m sworn in, I would issue a pardon.’ And that’s, I think, the right thing to do.”
