Sanders: I have little hope Trump will keep promises

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) says he’s not holding his breathe for President-elect Donald Trump to keep his campaign promises to working class voters.

{mosads}“I have very little hope that Trump will keep the promises he made to those people,” Sanders said Friday in California, according to SFGate.com

Sanders, who recently joined the Democratic leadership team, said he believes Democrats and Republicans can work together on global trade.

Both Sanders and Trump opposed President Obama’s Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade deal during their respective campaigns.

Trump promised to overturn or renegotiate trade deals like the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) once he takes office, using this to appeal to working class voters in states where manufacturing jobs have moved abroad.

Sanders expressed dim hopes over what Trump’s White House win means for Democrats.

“I don’t see this as much as a victory for Trump as I see it as a defeat for the present Democratic Party,” he said.
