Petraeus: Trump is ‘quite pragmatic’
Retired Gen. David Petraeus said early Sunday that Donald Trump is “quite pragmatic,” recalling his meeting with the president-elect in New York City last week.
{mosads}“Well I think he’s actually quite pragmatic,” Petraeus told ABC’s “This Week.”
Petraeus said last Monday that he had a “a very good conversation” with the president-elect, who “showed a great grasp of a variety of the challenges that are out there and some of the opportunities as well.”
“What I enjoyed, most frankly, was the discussion of issues if you will, or campaign rhetoric, and placing that in a strategic context,” he said Sunday.
Petraeus referenced Trump’s campaign rhetoric on trade as an example.
“As an example, he is not anti-trade … he’s anti-unfair trade,” Petraeus said.
The retired general and former CIA director is reportedly on Trump’s shortlist for secretary of State.
