Incoming chief of staff Reince Priebus says President-elect Donald Trump receives daily intelligence briefings.
“He’s doing his intelligence briefings every day and we do the presidential briefing, I think this week we’ll have three presidential briefings in the five days,” Priebus said Tuesday on “Fox & Friends.”
{mosads}”He’s very prepared. We spend all day, every day in his office, every half hour meeting with someone different, whether it be about world affairs, whether it be domestic issues, interviews for cabinet positions.”
Priebus said Trump also spoke on Monday with President Obama for some time about a “number of issues.”
“People are slicing and dicing right now and it’s December, it’s 10 days before Christmas, it’s interesting, and everything’s Donald Trump all the time,” Priebus said.
“But that’s OK, because he’s ready, we’re excited and he’s doing a fantastic job.”
Reuters last week reported that the president-elect receives on average only one presidential intelligence briefing a week — a number far lower than his predecessors.
In an interview Sunday, Trump said he gets the briefings when he needs them.
“First of all, these are very good people that are giving me the briefings. And I say, ‘If something should change from this point, immediately call me. I’m available on one-minute’s notice,’ ” Trump said.
He suggested during the interview it isn’t necessary for him to receive the briefings daily.
“I’m, like, a smart person,” the president-elect said.
“I don’t have to be told the same thing in the same words every single day for the next eight years. Could be eight years — but eight years. I don’t need that.”
