Cruz to conservatives: ‘Ignore the political circus’

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) on Thursday said that conservatives should “ignore the political circus” and shift their focus to the Republican Party’s priorities amid fired FBI Director James Comey’s high-profile Senate testimony.

“This is a strange time in Washington,” Cruz said at the Faith and Freedom Coalition’s “Road to Majority” conference at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C.

“There’s a lot of noise, a lot of people lighting hair on fire on cable news television,” he continued. “Ignore the political circus and let’s focus on delivering results. We have an historic opportunity.”

The Texas senator took the stage as Comey delivered his testimony at a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing, which has captivated the capital and the political world.

Comey opened  his remarks by accusing Trump of telling “lies” about him and saying he is “sure” that special counsel Robert Mueller is investigating whether Trump obstructed justice in his conduct with Comey.

“The administration chose to defame me and, more importantly, the FBI by saying that the organization was in disarray, that it was poorly run,” Comey said at Thursday’s hearing.

Trump is addressing the “Road to Majority” conference Thursday afternoon.
