Poll: Dems lead by 7 points on generic congressional ballot

Democrats lead Republicans on a generic congressional ballot by 7 points, according to a new survey.

A Politico/Morning Consult poll finds 44 percent of registered voters picked a Democratic candidate on a generic congressional ballot, while 37 percent selected a Republican.

Another 19 percent of respondents say they are undecided.

The Democrat also holds a lead over the Republican among independents, 34 percent to 25 percent. But another 41 percent of independent voters are undecided.

The new poll also found that President Trump has a 42 percent approval rating. A majority, 53 percent, disapprove of the job the president is doing.

The poll was conducted from July 27 to 30 among 1,972 registered voters. Its margin of error is 2 percentage points.

The poll comes as Republican senators last week tried and failed to pass a “skinny” bill repealing ObamaCare.
