Mark Meadows: I told Trump ’60-40, you win it all’

About 10 days out from Election Day 2016, Rep. Mark Meadows was flying on Donald Trump’s campaign plane, thousands of feet above the GOP congressman’s home state of North Carolina.

Meadows predicted Trump would win the Tar Heel State by about 3 percentage points.

“What about the whole thing?” Trump asked him, Meadows recalled.

{mosads}“Yeah, I think you’re gonna win the whole thing, too,” Meadows replied.

Always seeking more information, Trump had one more follow-up: “What are the odds?”

“60-40, you win it all,” Meadows said.

Trump would go on to shock the nation and win the White House. Weeks later, Meadows, one of the few members of Congress to stump with Trump during the raucous campaign, would win a key post of his own when he became the new chairman of the conservative House Freedom Caucus.

A week before the election, miles out from a Selma, N.C., rally for Trump, Meadows saw pick-up trucks parked on the side of the road with people waving American flags. At a small concert venue there, about 20,000 people turned out.

“At that point, I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that he was going to win N.C.,” Meadows said.
