‘Morning Joe’ host calls GOP ‘self-destructive suck-ups’
MSNBC “Morning Joe” host Mike Brzezinski called the GOP a group of “self-destructive suck-ups” for their loyalty to President Trump on Thursday.
“What will it take?” asked Brzezinski. “I’ve never seen a larger group of self-destructive suck-ups.”
She pointed to this week’s Pennsylvania special election, in which a Democrat is the presumed winner in a solidly Republican district.
{mosads}NBC reporter Heidi Przybyla said on the show that while there could potentially be a “huge wave” of backlash to Trump and the GOP in the upcoming midterm elections as well as panic within the party, many Republicans are “on the record” supporting the president.
“Like, what good is going to come out of it,” Brzezinski asked. “How does this help them?”
Przybyla suggested one of the only events that could shake Republican support from Trump en masse would be a major development in the special counsel’s investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election, which includes allegations of possible collusion between the Russian government and Trump’s campaign.
“They know the iceberg is straight ahead of them. They know they’re going to get routed this fall if there’s not a course correction,” said Brzezinski’s co-host, Joe Scarborough, a former Republican congressman from Florida.
Republicans are seeking to defend their majorities in the House and Senate this November.
