Menendez endorses Clinton, will co-chair campaign
Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) endorsed Democratic presidential front-runner Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.) Tuesday, giving a major boost to her efforts to attract Hispanic voters.
{mosads}“Senator Clinton stands out for the richness of her experience, the depth of her intelligence and the strength of her ideals,” Menendez said. “She is clearly the right leader, ready to chart a new course for America.”
Menendez, who was reelected in November after serving out the term of New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine (D), will serve as a co-chairman on Clinton’s presidential campaign. He had previously spent seven terms in the House and rose to the rank of Democratic Caucus chairman, making him the highest-ranking Hispanic in the history of Congress.
Clinton touted her work with Menendez on making the country more secure and helping those affected by the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
“I’m honored to have his support, and I look forward to continuing our work on expanding healthcare access and ensuring retirement security for all Americans,” she said.
