Key dates to watch in the 2024 presidential election

The 2024 presidential election is in full swing, with former President Trump’s lead over his GOP rivals setting the stage for a likely rematch against President Biden.

Kicking off the voting season, Iowa Republicans will hold the first-in-the-nation caucus on Jan. 15. New Hampshire is next in line, holding its first-in-the-nation primaries on Jan. 23. Iowa Democrats will release results from mail-in ballots on March 5, Super Tuesday.

The last primaries will be June 4. The country will decide the next president Nov. 5.

Here’s what’s coming up in the 2024 election.

January 2024 

Thursday, Jan. 4

  • CNN hosts town halls for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis at 9 p.m. ET and former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley at 10 p.m. ET in Des Moines, Iowa

Wednesday, Jan. 10

  • CNN hosts first 2024 GOP presidential debate in Des Moines at 9 p.m. ET
  • Fox News hosts town hall with former President Trump in Des Moines at 9 p.m. ET

Monday, Jan. 15 

  •  Iowa Republican caucus 

Thursday, Jan. 18

  • ABC News and WMUR-TV host second GOP debate in Manchester, N.H. at 9 p.m. ET

Sunday, Jan. 21

  • CNN holds third GOP debate in Henniker, N.H.
