Dem Axne beats GOP Rep. Young in Iowa
Small-business owner Cindy Axne is projected to win the House race in Iowa’s third congressional district, defeating GOP Rep. David Young in a race political analysts rated as a toss up.
Axne is one of a number of new female lawmakers expected to be coming to Washington next year, following an election often viewed as a “year of the woman.”
During the campaign, Axne attacked Young for voting for the GOP tax-cut law and House Republicans’ bill to repeal and replace ObamaCare. Young touted the tax law and said he worked to help protect people with pre-existing health conditions.
Iowa’s third congressional district includes Des Moines and rural areas in the southwestern part of the state. Former President Obama carried it in 2012 but Trump carried it in 2016.
