DeSantis says Hunter Biden would be in jail if he was Republican

GOP presidential candidate and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said Friday that if Hunter Biden were Republican, he would be in jail.

“If he were a Republican, he’d be in jail right now, and we all know that,” DeSantis said of President Biden’s son during a campaign stop in Iowa.

His comments come after Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed David Weiss — the prosecutor leading the investigation into Hunter Biden — to be a special counsel in the case.
The move, however, comes as a pending plea deal involving the younger Biden appears to be unwinding.

DeSantis on Friday also brought up the White House’s discovery of cocaine near the West Wing work area in July. The powdery substance was found in the lobby area where individuals leave their electronics and personal items before entering, Secret Service confirmed to the Hill last month.

The discovery of the drug has given Republicans an opening to criticize the president’s son for his past drug use, raised questions about security at the White House, and given the GOP political fodder against Biden ahead of the 2024 race.

The Florida governor chose to compare Hunter Biden’s prior activities to what his young children may do in the White House if he wins the presidency.

“The good thing about us is, you know, my kids are 6, 5 and 3, so they ain’t going to be bringing any cocaine into the White House when I’m president,” DeSantis said. “Don’t worry about that.”

“There may be some finger paint, there may be some stuff that happens, but it’s going to be G-rated,” he claimed.

Secret Service ended its investigation into the cocaine last month after failing to identify a suspect.
