Trump blames Democrats for legal fees that cost ‘vast amounts of money’

Former President Trump blamed Democrats on Saturday for the “vast amounts of money” his 2024 campaign is spending on legal fees.

“The Lunatic Left, working closely with Crooked Joe Biden and his corrupt DOJ, is not only focusing on Election Interference, but on getting the Trump Campaign to spend vast amounts of money on legal fees, thereby having less to spend on ads showing that Crooked Joe is the WORST PRESIDENT IN U.S. HISTORY!” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.

In the face of three separate indictments, the former president has been burning through cash. While Trump’s joint fundraising committee brought in nearly $54 million in the first half of 2023, he spent about $25 million on legal fees, according to recent campaign finance filings.

However, the Associated Press reported earlier this month that a person familiar with the matter put Trump’s legal fees closer to $40 million.

Trump is facing federal charges in Washington, D.C., and Florida over his efforts to remain in power after losing the 2020 election and his mishandling and improper retention of classified materials, respectively. The former president was also indicted in Manhattan over a 2016 hush money payment.

A potential fourth indictment is also looming in Georgia, as Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis (D) prepares to present her case to a grand jury next week. Willis has been investigating the former president and his allies’ efforts to overturn the election results in Georgia for two and a half years.
