Trump on Biden running: ‘Body is shot, and his mind is worse’
Former President Trump said Wednesday that President Biden’s “body is shot, and his mind is worse” when asked whether he believed Biden might be too old to run again.
During an interview with radio host Hugh Hewitt, Trump was asked if he believed Biden was going to be the Democratic nominee.
“Look, anything’s possible, but when I watch, his body is shot, and his mind is worse,” Trump told Hewitt.
“And yet, he seems to want to do it. And I hope he does it. But he seems to want to do it. But you take a look at him, and he’s not running government. People that are surrounding him, who are very smart fascists and communists, those are the people running our country,” he added.
Biden’s age is a clear concern for voters, despite the fact Biden is 80 and Trump is 77. A Wall Street Journal poll released Monday found 73 percent of respondents who believed the president is “too old to run,” while 47 percent said the same about Trump.
Polling from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research released late last month found 77 percent of respondents saying Biden is too old to effectively serve another four-year term as president, which includes 69 percent of Democrats and 89 percent of Republicans.
The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll found 51 percent of respondents saying Trump is too old to effectively serve another four-year term, including 71 percent of Democrats and 28 percent of Republicans.
The former president is still seen as a clear front-runner in the 2024 GOP primary, yet some Republicans are concerned about their general election prospects if Trump is the 2024 GOP nominee. Members of the party are concerned Trump could lose to Biden again in a 2024 rematch.
Biden’s allies and members of the administration, however, argue the president’s age is not hindering him heading into next year.
“I see him every day. A substantial amount of time we spend together is in the Oval Office, where I see how his ability to understand issues and weave through complex issues in a way that no one else can to make smart and important decisions on behalf of the American people have played out,” Vice President Harris told The Associated Press on Wednesday.
“And so I will say to you that I think the American people ultimately want to know that their president delivers. And Joe Biden delivers,” she added.
