Slotkin hauls in roughly $3M in third quarter in Michigan Senate race

Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.) raised close to $3 million in the third quarter in her campaign for Michigan’s open Senate seat, her campaign announced Wednesday.

Slotkin hauled in more than $2.98 million during the third quarter of this year, beating the $1.5 million she raised last quarter. Her campaign noted that 11,000 new donors gave to Slotkin’s campaign this quarter, leaving her with more than $5 million in the bank.

Slotkin is running to replace Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.), who announced she would not be seeking another term.

There are a number of other Democrats in the race, including former state Rep. Leslie Love, actor Hill Harper and Pamela Pugh, the president of Michigan’s Board of Education. However, Slotkin is a heavy favorite to win the Democratic nomination.

Former Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.) and former Detroit Police Chief James Craig are both running for the seat on the GOP side, while former Rep. Peter Meijer (R-Mich.), who lost his primary last cycle after voting to impeach former President Trump, launched an exploratory committee over a potential run.

“Without taking a dime of corporate PAC money, Elissa Slotkin’s campaign continues to demonstrate strong grassroots support from every county across the state,” Slotkin campaign spokesperson Austin Cook said in a statement.

“The contrast is stark: Republicans in Washington are beholden to extremists who are hellbent on pushing their far-right agenda, while Elissa is looking for practical solutions to get things done,” Cook added.

The nonpartisan election handicapper Cook Political Report rates the Michigan Senate seat “lean Democrat.”
