Trump still dominant in New Hampshire, Haley climbing in second: Poll

Former President Trump maintains a dominant lead in the 2024 GOP presidential pack in New Hampshire, but former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley (R) is on the rise in second, according to a poll released Thursday by The Washington Post and Monmouth University.

In a hypothetical primary race, 46 percent of registered Republican or undeclared New Hampshire voters said they would vote for the former president, and 18 percent of the voters said they would vote for Haley.

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie came in third at 11 percent, with entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy next at 8 percent and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis at 7 percent.

However, DeSantis fared better when voters were asked for their second choice. If their top choice dropped out of the GOP race, DeSantis was the top backup choice at 20 percent, followed by Haley at 17 percent and Ramaswamy at 11 percent. Only 8 percent of voters said Trump was their second choice.

Despite Trump’s lead in the poll, he also had a high unfavorability rating among respondents, at 36 percent. He was not the most disliked candidate, however, with Christie at 60 percent, followed by DeSantis at 40 percent.

The Post and Monmouth poll matched the results of a recent Emerson College Polling survey. In that poll, Trump led the pack at 49 percent, followed by Haley at 18 percent. The Emerson poll also found Christie at 9 percent and DeSantis at 7 percent.

The Post and Monmouth poll was conducted Nov. 9-14, featuring responses from 606 New Hampshire voters registered as Republicans or undeclared. The margin of sampling error was 4.5 percentage points.
