Trump goes on holiday tear over investigations, Colorado case
Former President Trump launched a holiday tirade this week with a series of posts on his Truth Social account targeting his various legal battles as well as his recent ban from the GOP primary ballot in Colorado.
“Biden’s Flunky, Deranged Jack Smith, should go to HELL,” Trump wrote in one post on Tuesday, referring to the special counsel in the federal investigation looking into the former president’s alleged election interference.
“He is helping his Corrupt and Incompetent President to destroy America through Weaponization and ELECTION INTERFERENCE! Smith is a Crooked Prosecutor who shouldn’t even be allowed to be in the position he is in—It is Prosecutorial Misconduct. The Great Ed Meese from the Ronald Reagan Era has him figured perfectly!”
On Monday, which was Christmas Day, Trump railed against opponents he claimed were “looking to destroy” the U.S. and called for them to “rot in hell.”
“Merry Christmas to all, including Crooked Joe Biden’s ONLY HOPE, Deranged Jack Smith, the out of control Lunatic who just hired outside attorneys, fresh from the SWAMP (unprecedented!), to help him with his poorly executed WITCH HUNT against ‘TRUMP’ and ‘MAGA,’” Trump wrote.
Trump’s post continued with a laundry list of complaints against Biden administration policies and ideologies, as well as those who support them, “looking to destroy our once great USA” and signed off with, “MAY THEY ROT IN HELL. AGAIN, MERRY CHRISTMAS!”
The former president also shared numerous articles over the past day criticizing the Colorado Supreme Court’s decision to bar him from appearing on that state’s primary ballot.
Trump has been lashing out on his Truth Social platform since the ruling came down last week.
“WHAT A SHAME FOR OUR COUNTRY!!!” he wrote in one post.
The Centennial State’s highest court ruled that Trump engaged in insurrection by inflaming his supporters with false claims of election fraud and directing them to the Capitol. The insurrection clause prohibits a person from holding any U.S. office if they have engaged in insurrection after swearing to “support” the Constitution as “an officer of the United States.”
In another post, the former president asserted that all the cases he faces are “the work of the DOJ & White House.”
“NO SUCH THING HAS EVER HAPPENED IN OUR COUNTRY BEFORE. BANANA REPUBLIC??? ELECTION INTERFERENCE!!!” Trump’s post read.
President Biden said last week that while it was up to the court to decide whether Trump should be prohibited from the Colorado ballot under the 14th Amendment, it was “self-evident” that Trump supported an insurrection on Jan. 6, 2021.
“Whether the 14th Amendment applies or not, we’ll let the court make that decision,” Biden said. “But he certainly supported an insurrection. There’s no question about it. None. Zero. And he seems to be doubling down on it.”
Following Biden’s words, the former president said Thursday on Truth Social that he is not an insurrectionist.
“I’m not an Insurrectionist,” Trump wrote, noting comments he made to supporters on Jan. 6 in which he encouraged them to march to the Capitol “peacefully and patriotically.”
“Crooked Joe Biden is!!!” Trump continued.
The former president continued his posting spree Sunday, taking aim at special counsel Jack Smith. In one post, he said he is “fully entitled” to total presidential immunity when it comes to the charges he faces in Smith’s case related to efforts to overturn the 2020 election. He also doubled down on his claims that Smith is working on Biden’s behalf.
“THEY SPIED ON MY CAMPAIGN, LIED TO CONGRESS, CHEATED ON FISA, RIGGED A PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION, ALLOWED MILLIONS OF PEOPLE, MANY FROM PRISONS & MENTAL INSTITUTIONS, TO INVADE OUR COUNTRY, SCREWED UP IN AFGHANISTAN, & JOE BIDEN’S MISFITS & THUGS, LIKE DERANGED JACK SMITH, ARE COMING AFTER ME, AT LEVELS OF PERSECUTION NEVER SEEN BEFORE IN OUR COUNTRY??? IT’S CALLED ELECTION INTERFERENCE. MERRY CHRISTMAS!” Trump said in another Christmas Eve post.
Trump highlighted criticism of the Colorado ballot decision from fellow GOP presidential candidate Chris Christie in a Tuesday post, as well.
Trump posted a screenshot of quotes from Christie from a RealClearPolitics article, in which Christie said he did not “believe it is good for our country if he is precluded from the ballot by a court.” The Christie quote post also came alongside other Truth Social posts that included criticism of the court ruling.
“I do not believe Donald Trump should be prevented from being president of the United States by any court,” Christie said in the quotes. “He should be prevented from being president by the voters of this country.”
