Trump, Haley make gains in latest New Hampshire poll

Former President Trump and former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley have made gains among likely Republican primary voters in New Hampshire, according to a recent survey.

The American Research Group poll found Haley polling at 33 percent among likely Republican primary voters in the Granite State in a survey taken between Dec. 27 and Jan. 3 — up four points from a December survey

Former President Trump also made some gains, as the survey now shows him at 37 percent versus 33 percent last month. Trump and Haley still maintain a distance of 4 points in the more recent survey, similar to the earlier survey.

Last month, the former president expressed his distaste with the earlier survey in a post on Truth Social.

“Fake New Hampshire poll was released on Birdbrain,” Trump said about Haley, using a nickname for her. “Just another scam! Ratings challenged FoxNews will play it to the hilt. Sununu now one of the least popular governors in the U.S. Real poll to follow.”

Haley’s rise also comes despite recent controversy she has faced over an answer she gave at a town hall in New Hampshire about the cause of the Civil War, during which she did not mention slavery.

“Well, don’t come with an easy question, right,” Haley said at the time. “I mean, I think the cause of the Civil War was basically how government was going to run, the freedoms and what people could and couldn’t do.”

The voter then criticized her answer and said it was “astonishing” that in 2023 she did not mention slavery when discussing the cause of the Civil War.

“What do you want me to say about slavery?” the former United Nations ambassador asked.

The survey was conducted from Dec. 27 to Jan. 3 and features 600 interviews of likely Republican primary voters in New Hampshire. It has a margin of error of 4 percentage points.
