Haley says she hasn’t ‘looked at’ Trump’s sexual abuse case

GOP presidential primary candidate Nikki Haley said in an interview Tuesday that she hasn’t “looked at” writer E. Jean Carroll’s case against former President Trump.

“This one I haven’t looked at, but look, if he’s found guilty, then he needs to pay the price,” Haley said in an interview on CNN.

Last year, a jury found that the former president had sexually abused and defamed Carroll, awarding her $5 million. She now is seeking a minimum of $10 million for the former president’s denials at the time. She first came out with her claims publicly in 2019.

Trump unleashed his fury at Carroll in a series of social media posts Tuesday as he arrived at court in New York City for a trial to determine how much he must pay, since he has already been found liable.

“The only right, honest, and lawful thing that Clinton-appointed Judge Lewis Kaplan, who has so far been unable to see clearly because of his absolute hatred of Donald J. Trump (ME!), can do is to end this unAmerican injustice being done to a President of the United States, who was wrongfully accused by a woman he never met, saw, or touched (a photo line does not count!), and knows absolutely nothing about,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

According to a projection from The Hill and Decision Desk HQ, Haley came in third in Iowa in its recent GOP caucuses, behind Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. Election returns from Decision Desk HQ/The Hill show Haley earning 19.1 percent of the Hawkeye State’s caucus vote, closely following DeSantis, who earned 21.2 percent. However, both of them were handily beaten by former President Trump, who was at 51 percent support.

The battle for the GOP nomination heads to New Hampshire next, where Haley is only 8 points behind the former president in Decision Desk HQ/The Hill’s New Hampshire polling average. She also has the endorsement of New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu (R).
