Greene: Boebert should be concerned about straw poll

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) said fellow House Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert (Colo.) should be concerned after she placed fifth in a straw poll in her new district.

In an interview with The Hill’s Kevin Cirilli, Greene said she is not looking to get involved in Boebert’s primary race, after the Colorado lawmaker switched congressional districts in December.

“I think she’s got to earn those people’s support. I saw that she came in fifth place in the straw poll over the weekend, which she should be very concerned about,” Greene said.

Boebert, who was first elected to represent Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District in 2020, said she would instead run for reelection in the state’s 4th District, after Rep. Ken Buck (R) announced he would be retiring from Congress.

Following the first GOP debate in the district, Boebert placed fifth in the straw poll, indicating she has an uphill battle in a district that is more solidly Republican than her current district.

According to Jesse Paul, a reporter for The Colorado Sun, the straw poll had a “very unscientific sample.” The debate was held in the state’s 8th District and attendees had to pay to attend the event. The crowd was made up of “many family, friends of candidates,” Paul posted on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

Greene and Boebert, among some of the most conservative lawmakers in the House, have sparred in the past. Greene called Boebert a “little b‑‑‑‑” in June after the Colorado Republican tried to force a vote on impeaching President Biden.

Boebert faces nine other candidates in the GOP primary for the state’s 4th District. Jerry Sonnenberg, a former member of the state Senate and state House, earned the most support with 22 votes in the straw poll.

“I think that’s a serious primary, and it seems like there’s some good candidates in there,” Greene said. “We’ll see what’s happening with the polling and the direction it’s going in.”
