Haley unveils ‘Grumpy Old Men’ attack on Trump, Biden

GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley unveiled a new line of attack on former President Trump and President Biden’s age and mental acuity, calling them “Grumpy Old Men.”

Haley’s campaign said in a Wednesday release that the series will feature various aspects of what the country should expect from Trump and Biden if they are the nominees come November, “More chaos, confusion, drama, and a refusal to debate.”

The series marks a further step up in Haley’s attacks on the two front-runners’ abilities as the primary season is underway.

“Nearly 50% of Republicans and 70% of Americans don’t want to watch Grumpy Old Men stumble across America when our country is on the brink and the world is on fire,” campaign spokesperson Olivia Perez-Cubas said in the release. “Sadly, this version of Grumpy Old Men offers no comic relief — just chaos, confusion, and a bad sense of deja vu for the American people.”

Perez-Cubas is referring to numerous polls that have shown a large amount of the county does not want to have a rematch between Biden and Trump in the 2024 presidential race, even as it becomes increasingly likely.

The New York Times reported that the campaign will launch online videos, digital ads and emails to voters as part of the series to argue how Biden and Trump are alike. Some of the episodes of the series will include “Debate Dodgers,” referring to Trump and Biden both not participating in primary debates, and “Stumbling Seniors,” arguing that both are “plagued by obvious signs of mental confusion and fatigue.”

Another episode blames both for the inflation that broke records in 2022 and harmed families, saying they “spent like drunken sailors.”

Haley has argued throughout much of the campaign that Biden, who will be 82 on Election Day, is not mentally up for four more years in office. She has also increasingly been criticizing the mental fitness of 77-year-old Trump, including earlier this month after he appeared to mix up her and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

Haley, who served under the Trump administration as ambassador to the United Nations, has proposed mental competency tests for candidates who are 75 and older and called for a new generation of leadership in the GOP and the country.
