Rep. Victoria Spartz (R-Ind.) will reportedly make a decision this weekend about running for reelection or retiring.

In a text message to Politico, Spartz said she would “probably” make her “decision what to do this weekend.”

The Indiana lawmaker announced in October that she would consider resigning from her position if Congress did not create a debt commission by the end of 2023.

Her announcement came just after Congress averted a government shutdown with the passing of a stopgap funding bill. Since then, Congress has passed two more continuing resolutions, the most recent on Jan. 18.

Spartz announced on Feb. 3, 2023, that she would not be running for Congress in 2024, passing up a bid for the state’s open Senate seat and not pursuing reelection in the House because she wanted to spend more time with her high school-aged daughters.

According to Politico, Republicans in Indiana are increasingly expecting Spartz to file for reelection. One member said her office is hiring and has added town hall events, which are things you wouldn’t “do if you were done in December.”

Spartz told the outlet that she has gotten “a lot of pressure to run again” so she feels she needs to make her decision soon.

The Hill has reached out to her office for comment.
