Biden age and health, Trump legal battles concern voters in new poll

President Biden’s age and health and former President Trump’s legal woes are serious issues of concern for voters, according to a new poll ahead of a potential November rematch between the two.

The latest NBC News poll found 76 percent of voters had major or moderate concerns when asked whether Biden, 81, has “the necessary mental and physical health to be president for a second term.” Another 13 percent said they had minor concerns, while 11 percent said they had no real concerns on the issue.

NBC News noted 95 percent of Republicans, 81 percent of independents and 54 percent of Democrats had major or moderate concerns about Biden’s age and health.

When asked the same question about the 77-year-old Trump, 48 percent said they had major or moderate concerns. Seventeen percent had minor concerns, and 35 percent had no real concerns, according to the poll.

While voters had more concerns with Biden’s age than Trump’s, they were also concerned about the four ongoing criminal cases the former president is facing. When the poll asked how concerned they were over Trump’s legal battles, 51 percent said they had major concerns, 10 percent said they had moderate concerns, 11 percent said they had minor ones and 28 percent said they had no concerns.

Ninety-five percent of Democrats, 65 percent of independents and 27 percent of Republicans say they had major or moderate concerns with Trump’s legal battles, according to NBC.

The poll also asked voters about how concerned they were about claims questioning whether Biden was involved in business dealings involving his son, Hunter. Republican lawmakers have been investigating Biden’s family’s business dealings for months and opened an impeachment inquiry into the issue last year.

Nearly 60 percent said they had major or moderate concerns about those claims, 14 percent had minor concerns and 26 percent had no real concerns.

The poll was conducted among 1,000 registered voters Jan. 26-30 and has a margin of error of 3.1 percentage points.
