Biden campaign says idea president is unfit for office is ‘bucket of BS’

The co-chair of President Biden’s campaign said the idea that the president is unfit for office is a “bucket of BS” on Sunday.

Biden and his allies have been scrambling in recent days to respond to a report by special counsel Robert Hur that was looking into classified documents found in Biden’s private residences. NBC News’ Kristen Welker pressed Biden campaign co-chair Mitch Landrieu on whether Biden’s handling of classified documents was also “irresponsible,” pointing to former President Trump, who had stored classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago residence.

Landrieu said the classified documents situations involving Biden and Trump are “not even close to being the same cases.” Trump faces 40 charges over allegations that he mishandled classified records and tried to prevent the government from retrieving them after he left the White House.

“But that’s not what the most egregious thing is about this report. It is this ad hominem attack that questioned the president’s capacity and I want to speak to that very clearly because I can testify because I’ve been working very closely with this president for the past two years,” he said, adding that he has known Biden for 30 years.

Hur did not recommend charges against Biden, but his report still brought bad news for the Biden campaign after describing him as an “elderly man with a poor memory.” Landrieu pushed back on some suggestions that Biden is not fit for office after the report’s release.

“And I’m telling you, this guy is tough. He’s smart. He’s on his game …. when you go into brief the president, you’ve got to — you better have your big boy pants on. And this kind of sense that he’s not ready for this job is just a bucket of BS that’s so deep, your boots will get stuck in it,” he said.
