Tuberville says Biden running for reelection to stay out of jail

Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) argued that President Biden is running for reelection so he can stay out of jail.

While attending the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) on Thursday, Tuberville made an appearance on Newsmax, where he questioned whether Biden is going to be the likely nominee for the Democratic Party in the upcoming election.

“I don’t know what they’re gonna do,” the Alabama senator said, adding that former President Trump is “gonna win anyway.”

Tuberville predicted the Democratic Party would replace Biden sometime around the Democratic National Convention in August and “move somebody in to try to give President Trump a run for his money.”

“But Joe Biden, he can’t win. He’s just trying to stay in there just so he’d stay out of jail, to be honest with you,” Tuberville continued, in a conversation highlighted by Mediaite.

The Alabama senator argued that “about three months ago,” he thought Biden “would probably make it,” but now he has concerns as he sees the president declining. He pointed to a video of Biden walking on a tarmac “shuffling his feet, looking at the ground” and said “we got to have some leadership in this country.

Biden, 81, is facing mounting criticism and questions about his capabilities to handle a second term, as he would be the oldest president to serve in the Oval Office.

In another recent interview, Tuberville suggested that the impeachment inquiry into Biden would likely fail at the moment and said “this is all up to the House.”

House Republicans approved the impeachment inquiry into Biden last December, but after federal officials found a key source for the GOP made false allegations about the president’s finances, Democrats are saying there’s not enough evidence to continue the investigation.

House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) brushed aside the indictment against the FBI informant over allegedly false claims and said his arrest “doesn’t change the fundamental facts” of the case against Biden.

The inquiry includes deep dives into the personal and business finances of the Biden family.

Where Tuberville, a supporter of Trump, the current GOP front-runner, argues that Biden is campaigning to stay out of prison, others say the same about Trump.

Former GOP candidate Will Hurd argued last year that Trump’s running for the third time to avoid jail in the wake of his 91 criminal charges across four state and federal indictments.
