Trump, Biden locked in tight race in Wisconsin: Poll
President Biden and former President Trump are locked in a tight race in Wisconsin, according to a poll released Tuesday.
An Emerson College Polling/The Hill survey found Trump leading Biden 45 percent to 42 percent, with 12 percent undecided. Because the polling falls within the margin of error, which is plus or minus 3 percentage points, the two men are effectively tied.
An earlier survey in January found Biden barely edging past Trump 45 percent to 44 percent, while another poll in November showed Trump leading Biden 44 percent to 43 percent, underscoring the competitiveness of the state.
When third-party candidates were added to the mix in the newest poll, Trump came in at 41 percent, followed by Biden at 37 percent; Robert F. Kennedy Jr. at 7 percent; and Cornel West and Jill Stein each receiving 1 percent. A separate 13 percent were undecided.
Biden fares better among voters aged 30 to 39 years old and 40 to 49 years old, while Trump fares better slightly among 18- to 29-year-old voters as well as more comfortably with voters aged 50 and up.
“Independent voters in Wisconsin break for President Biden over Trump 41% to 35%,” Spencer Kimball, executive director of Emerson College Polling, said in a press release. “Voters under 30 are split: 39% support Trump, 37% Biden, and 25% are undecided.”
Wisconsin is among a handful of battleground states that will determine the presidency this November, with recent polling showing Biden faring worse against Trump in other critical swing states like Nevada and Arizona.
The Emerson College Polling/The Hill survey was conducted Feb. 20-24 with 1,000 registered voters surveyed. The margin of error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.
