Former GOP presidential candidate Francis Suarez endorses Trump

Miami Mayor Francis Suarez (R) announced Friday morning he is endorsing former President Trump in the presidential race.

The former GOP presidential candidate shared his support for Trump in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, saying the former president is the only 2024 contender who can “secure” the southern border, curb inflation and lead the country.

“After seeing both our current President and President Trump at the border, and having been there myself last week, it is evident to me that the only candidate that will keep our country safe, our border secured, reduce inflation and can coherently lead our country forward is President Donald J. Trump. For those reasons, I am endorsing President Trump today,” Suarez wrote.

Suarez’s endorsement comes just a day after both Trump and President Biden visited the U.S.-Mexico border.

The Miami mayor ended his long-shot GOP presidential bid in late August after failing to qualify for the GOP’s first primary debate in Milwaukee.

He was the third GOP Floridian in race, joining Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R).

Suarez, in his endorsement post, said he will help Trump’s campaign and assist him and the GOP in their outreach to Hispanic voters ahead of the November showdown. Trump has gained some support from Hispanic voters; in the survey done by USA Today and Suffolk University, Trump was ahead of Biden by 5 points among Hispanics.

“I look forward to helping him campaign on his strong record and contrast it with the current administration’s,” Suarez said. “I especially look forward to helping President Trump and the Republican Party win a larger share of Hispanic, young voters and voters across our cities and urban centers.”
