Biden takes victory lap after Super Tuesday results

President Biden said Super Tuesday primary voters sent a clear message heading into his likely rematch with former President Trump in the general election.

“Today, millions of voters across the country made their voices heard — showing that they are ready to fight back against Donald Trump’s extreme plan to take us backwards,” Biden said in a statement as results rolled in, showing he largely swept in the Democratic primaries.

The president warned that all the progress he’s made would be at risk under Trump and that the general election in November is about defending democracy.

“[Trump] is driven by grievance and grift, focused on his own revenge and retribution, not the American people,” Biden said. “He is determined to destroy our democracy, rip away fundamental freedoms like the ability for women to make their own health care decisions, and pass another round of billions of dollars in tax cuts for the wealthy — and he’ll do or say anything to put himself in power.”

He also outlined that the Tuesday results offer a clear choice: between Biden or letting Trump “drag us backwards into the chaos, division, and darkness that defined his term in office.”

On Thursday, Biden will share a similar message in his State of the Union address, warning voters against another four years of Trump. Biden’s reelection campaign plans to make March, after Super Tuesday and the State of the Union, the month to ramp up attacks on Trump.

Biden was set for a sweep of Super Tuesday states, but lost the American Samoa presidential caucuses to entrepreneur Jason Palmer.
