Biden campaign raises $90M in March, enters second quarter with $192M on hand

The Biden campaign on Saturday announced a staggering haul of $90 million in the month of March, buoyed by a major New York City fundraiser and another strong month of grassroots donations.

The campaign closed out the first quarter of 2024 having raised $187 million total, and it enters the second quarter of the year with $192 million in cash on hand, which it said was a record for any Democratic candidate at this point in the election cycle. So far, 1.6 million people have donated to the campaign, officials said.

The fundraising haul outpaced what former President Trump’s campaign brought in during March, when his operation raised roughly $66 million. The Trump campaign and Republican National Committee, which merged last month after Trump became the presumptive nominee, ended March with $93.1 million in cash on hand.

“The money we are raising is historic, and it’s going to the critical work of building a winning operation, focused solely on the voters who will decide this election – offices across the country, staff in our battleground states, and a paid media program meeting voters where they are,” Biden campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez said in a statement. “It’s a stark contrast to Trump’s cash-strapped operation that is funneling the limited and billionaire-reliant funds it has to pay off his various legal fees.”

The Biden campaign posted its best grassroots fundraising month to date in March, breaking its own record for small-dollar donations for a fifth consecutive month.

The president brought in $26 million in one night when he attended an event last week with former Presidents Obama and Clinton in New York City. And the campaign raised $10 million in the 24 hours surrounding the State of the Union in early March.

The cash advantage has allowed the campaign to open more than 100 field offices across the country and launch a $30 million ad campaign targeting key battleground states.

Trump, meanwhile, is scheduled to attend a major fundraiser in Florida Saturday, where his campaign expects it will raise more than $33 million at an event hosted by hedge fund founder John Paulson.

Trump has additional fundraisers in the coming weeks, including one on April 13 in Pennsylvania, two days before his hush money trial is set to begin in New York.
