Dems troll RNC for promoting convention with Ho Chi Minh City photo
Democrats took a swipe at the Republican National Convention (RNC) after its website included a background picture of Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam rather than Milwaukee, where the party’s convention will be hosted next month.
The background picture of Ho Chi Minh City went viral on social media Tuesday after a Boston Globe reporter posted a screenshot of what appeared to be the RNC’s “News and Updates” website section. As of Wednesday, the screenshot had more than 598,000 views and 3,700 likes.
The Democratic National Committee called out the apparent mistake Tuesday night.
“Maybe if Donald Trump and the RNC actually bothered to have a real campaign operation in Wisconsin, they could tell the difference between Milwaukee and Ho Chi Minh City. We encourage them to continue going all-in to win the voters of Ho Chi Minh City while Democrats earn the votes of Wisconsinites,” the committee’s rapid response director Alex Floyd wrote in a statement.
The RNC will take place in Milwaukee, Wisc., starting July 15.
A RNC spokesperson confirmed the image did not come from any RNC assets and was placed on the website by a web developer who no longer works for the convention. The image has been swapped out.
The Democratic Party of Wisconsin later posted an edited photo of a T-shirt that read, “I attended 2024 RNC convention Milwaukee, WI, USA,” with the location crossed out and replaced with “Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam,” on the social media platform X.
“It appears that Trump’s RNC is unfamiliar with the location of Milwaukee, Wisconsin,” Ben Wikler, the chair of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin added on X.
The RNC is expected to nominate former President Trump at next month’s convention, which takes place four days after Trump is scheduled to be sentenced in his hush money case in New York.
The former president was found guilty last week on all 34 felony counts of falsifying business records to conceal an alleged affair during his 2016 presidential run.
Republican National Committee Chair Michael Whatley on Tuesday said the convention is planning for the possibility of Trump being jailed during the convention.
“Yeah, we’re working on that right now,” Whatley said during his Tuesday appearance on Newsmax’s “Wake Up America.” “I’m actually going up to Milwaukee this week, and we’re going to have a series of conversations.”
