Pompeo says he’s ‘confident’ Trump will pick a good VP

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said he is “confident” that former President Trump will pick a good vice president.

Pompeo, a Fox News contributor, joined Fox News’s Sandra Smith to discuss Trump’s highly anticipated announcement for his running mate, President Biden’s capabilities and national security.

Smith questioned Pompeo, a Trump supporter and former Trump administration official, about if he was on the former president’s shortlist for running mates.

Pompeo dodged the question but said he thinks Trump will choose someone fit for office.

“The president will pick someone serious and capable of executing the duties of the president of the United States, I am confident of that,” he said.

Trump visited House and Senate Republicans on Capitol Hill Thursday and later said that his running mate was “probably” in the room during the meeting. He said he’s still not sure who his vice-presidential candidate will be but that has “a pretty good idea.”

The shortlist of hopefuls includes Reps. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.) and Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) as well as Sens. JD Vance (R-Ohio), Tim Scott (R-S.C.) and Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), among other high-profile Republican options.

The former president announced this week that he will reveal his pick at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee next month.

Pompeo said there were “lots of good folks” standing behind Trump during his Washington meetings.

He then said he would be worried if Vice President Kamala Harris, who is seeking a second term with 81-year-old Biden, needed to take over as commander-in-chief.

“A handful of those would be great pics for vice president,” he said about the Republican choices. “I don’t want to talk about conversations that may be being had or not, but suffice it to say, compared to the current vice president, who I would be deeply worried to have sitting as our Commander in Chief, I am very confident the President of the United States, or Donald Trump, who I hope will be the president of the United States again, will pick a really good vice president.”

“I’m convinced that he will,” Pompeo concluded.
