Biden campaign: Harris prepared to debate Vance

Vice President Harris is prepared to debate former President Trump’s vice president pick, Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), the Biden campaign said Monday.

Biden campaign spokesperson TJ Ducklo noted on a call with reporters that Harris has been on the campaign trail focusing on reproductive health, gun violence and the economy, arguing she is ready for a debate.

“We expect that she will do the same if JD Vance is willing to debate her. But I can tell you right now that the vice president is fully prepared to take him on,” Ducklo said.

The Biden campaign in May accepted CBS News’s invitation for Harris to debate the future Trump vice president choice. At the time, the network said a debate would be on either July 23 or Aug. 13.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), who talked to reporters on behalf of the Biden campaign on Monday, argued that Harris “will take it to JD Vance.”

“I’ve known her for nearly 15 years. While she’s been in every kind of fight on behalf of working families,” the senator said.

“I’m looking forward to this debate,” Warren added.

The Biden campaign earlier on Monday blasted Trump for choosing Vance as his running mate, saying that the senator will only enable the former president.

“Donald Trump picked J.D. Vance as his running mate because Vance will do what Mike Pence wouldn’t on January 6: bend over backwards to enable Trump and his extreme MAGA agenda, even if it means breaking the law and no matter the harm to the American people,” Biden campaign Chair Jen O’Malley Dillon said in a statement.
