Pelosi says Dems not worried about Trump rhetoric: ‘He’s well known for his … insanity’
Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Democrats have learned to put aside the “insanity” of former President Trump, after he shared a post Tuesday positing that President Biden could show up at the Democratic convention to demand the nomination.
Biden, 81, under pressure from Democrats after a disastrous debate against Trump dropped out of the race last month and endorsed Vice President Harris as his successor.
“It isn’t on the level,” Pelosi told MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell on Wednesday, discussing her new book. “It’s a wonder they, as I said in the book, don’t have an intervention, because that’s not on the level. It’s pathetic.”
“But again, we don’t agonize, we organize,” she added, brushing off the comments.
“This is so sad. It is so pathetically sad. But again, we can’t dwell on him,” she continued. “He’s well known for his, in my view, insanity. We have to go forward with our best, addressing the kitchen table issues of the American people as Joe Biden did.”
The former Speaker claimed that many of Trump’s accusations are merely projection and come from his own shortcomings.
“I say he’s a projector. He’s saying, Joe Biden is the worst president? He knows he was. He’s saying we’re crazy? He knows he is,” she said. “He says somebody’s crooked. He knows he is. So he’s projector, an impostor. And we just have to win.”
Pelosi and Trump have a long history of insults. In 2020, Pelosi tore up Trump’s State of the Union address moments after he concluded his speech to Congress. The former Speaker was widely seen as an instrumental player in pushing Biden out of the race. She’s denied she pushed Biden out.
Harris’s campaign has launched to significant momentum, eliminating the lead Trump once had over Biden last month.
Harris overtook Trump in The Hill/Decision Desk HQ average of national polls this week, though only with a 0.1 percent lead, the first time the Democratic candidate has led since before primaries began.
