RFK Jr. sought Harris meeting to get Cabinet job

Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. attempted to reach out to Vice President Harris about a Cabinet position if she wins in November, a Democratic official confirmed to The Hill.

The effort to join a future Harris administration, which was first reported by The Washington Post, was unsuccessful.

“No one has any intention of negotiating with a MAGA-funded fringe candidate who has sought out a job with Donald Trump in exchange for an endorsement,” Democratic National Committee spokesperson Matt Corridoni told The Hill in a statement.

The independent candidate last month also reportedly spoke with Trump about a Cabinet job if he wins in November.

Kennedy was previously viewed as a potential spoiler for either former President Trump or President Biden, when he was in the race. Since Biden dropped out and Harris became the likely Democratic nominee, signs have emerged in recent polling that show Kennedy and other third-party candidates could pose trouble for the former president, but not for the Democrats.

After the outreach effort, the independent candidate bashed Harris on the social platform X, saying he would not endorse her.

“VP Harris’s Democratic Party would be unrecognizable to my father and uncle and I cannot reconcile it with my values,” he wrote Thursday.

“I have no plans to endorse Kamala Harris for President. I do have a plan to defeat her,” Kennedy added later in the post.

After claiming he would be on the ballot in all 50 states, Kennedy has been denied New York ballot access over residency concerns, but a judge in North Carolina ruled he can stay on the ballot in that state.
