Harris’s favorability surges among Democrats, independents: Poll

Vice President Harris’s favorability rating among independents and Democrats has risen since June, according to a new poll.

A new Gallup poll released Thursday found that Harris’s favorability rating among U.S. adults jumped from 34 percent in June to 47 percent in August. With Democrats, the vice president improved from 77 percent in June to 93 percent this month. Her favorability with independents has increased by double digits, from 28 percent two months ago to 41 percent in August, according to the poll

Harris’s standing with Republicans remained the same 5 percent as recorded in June, according to the survey. The poll was released just hours before Harris is set to speak at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, where she will formally accept her party’s nomination.

President Biden, who decided to not run for reelection in late July, has seen his approval rating increase by 7 points to 43 percent. The poll found that former President Trump’s favorability rating dipped by 5 points to 41 percent. Both politicians were viewed favorably by their own party’s supporters, but independents had a more positive view of Trump, 36 percent, compared to Biden’s 30 percent.

A survey from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research that came out earlier this week found that 48 percent of adults had a somewhat or very favorable view of Harris.

The Gallup survey was conducted Aug. 1-20 among 1,015 adults. The margin of error was 4 percentage points.
