DNC official says RFK Jr.’s endorsement ‘changes nothing about the race’
Hannah Muldavin, a senior spokesperson for the Democratic National Committee (DNC), said Sunday that Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s endorsement of former President Trump’s White House bid “changes nothing” about the 2024 race.
Muldavin said Kennedy’s Friday announcement was “not surprising for a second,” pointing to the Trump allies and conservatives who supported Kennedy and their similar messaging against President Biden and Vice President Harris.
“I’ll tell you, Chris, this changes nothing about the actual election,” Muldavin said in an interview on NewsNation’s “The Hill Sunday” with Chris Stirewalt. “RFK Jr.’s money was hemorrhaging. His support was hemorrhaging.”
Muldavin painted Kennedy’s bid as a spoiler for Trump and said the Harris campaign has “always been preparing” for a head-to-head match-up against Trump.
“We know that that is what we want, that independent voters favor Kamala Harris over Donald Trump. And so this changes nothing about the race,” Muldavin said. “It affirms what we always knew from the starting point: that RFK Jr. was a spoiler for Donald Trump, and we’re ready to win this as Democrats and go talk to those voters.”
The interview comes after Kennedy announced he would suspend his campaign and endorse Trump. Kennedy, who was running as an independent by the end of his campaign, began by challenging President Biden for the Democratic nomination.
Harris leads Trump by 3.6 points, with 49.5 percent support to his 45.9 percent, in a hypothetical head-to-head match-up, according to the national polling average from The Hill and Decision Desk HQ.
Harris’s lead grows slightly in a hypothetical three-way race, according to the national polling average. Harris has 49 percent support, Trump has 43.9 percent support and Kennedy has 2.7 percent support.
