The Trump campaign on Tuesday sought to tie Vice President Harris directly to some of the problems that unfolded during the Biden administration, arguing she has been responsible for the past three and a half years.
The campaign released a video titled “Day One,” seeking to dismiss the idea that a Harris presidency would be a new start.
“Day one for Kamala was three-and-a-half years ago,” Trump says at a rally featured in the video.
The video cites Harris’s role as President Biden’s No. 2 for the duration of his presidency. It points to rising costs under the Biden White House, an influx of migrants at the southern border in recent years and Harris’s own assertion that she was the last person in the room with Biden as he decided to withdraw troops from Afghanistan.
In a separate release headlined “Kamala Harris Is Inseparable From Joe Biden,” the Trump campaign pointed to the similarities between the Harris campaign’s “issues” page on its website and Biden’s policy proposals.
“Kamala Harris owns Joe Biden’s failed record on the economy and the border,” the campaign said. “The Harris campaign can try to deny this, but it’s hard to separate yourself from someone when you are copying all of their policies.”
Trump is expected to try to aggressively tie Harris to the Biden administration’s record on immigration and inflation at Tuesday night’s debate.
Harris replaced Biden as the Democratic nominee in late July after the president announced he would not seek a second term. The vice president has energized Democrats, drawing large rally crowds and smashing fundraising records in a condensed time frame.
Harris has also walked a tightrope when it comes to Biden, praising him as a “transformative” president while seeking to offer voters a change from the current administration. She has defended the Biden administration’s record on the economy and its efforts to push through a bipartisan border security bill, while also offering new proposals to bring down costs and shifting away from Biden on certain tax policies.
“Vice President Harris has spent the last three and a half years as the vice president of the United States,” campaign spokesperson Ian Sams said Tuesday on Fox News. “And what has she been able to do as the vice president of the United States? She’s been able to work with President Biden toward consensus-driven solutions that can actually make change in people’s lives.”
