Trump makes rare spin room appearance after debate with Harris
Former President Trump on Tuesday made a surprise appearance in the spin room following his debate with Vice President Harris, where he sought to dismiss questions about his performance and tout himself as the victor of the night.
Trump took questions for several minutes before proceeding to the set of Sean Hannity’s Fox News show, where he touted his performance as his “best” and shrugged off questions about whether he would debate Harris again.
“I had a good time. I think it was our best debate ever. We had three against one,” Trump said, complaining about the ABC News moderators.
It is not typical for candidates themselves to go to the spin room after a debate. Instead, candidates have surrogates on location to speak to reporters after the event.
“I just felt I wanted to,” Trump told Hannity of why he visited the spin room. “I was very happy with the result.”
The vice president repeatedly attempted to get under Trump’s skin during Tuesday night’s debate, often succeeding as the former president went on tangents about crowd size, President Biden and a conspiracy about migrants abducting pets in an Ohio town.
Harris’s campaign called for another debate moments after it ended.
“Vice President Harris is ready for a second debate. Is Donald Trump?” campaign chairwoman Jen O’Malley Dillon said in a statement.
